Martin Zubimendi insists Real Sociedad is his life despite Liverpool’s approach
Spain midfielder Martin Zubimendi has revealed the reason he decided to stay at Real Sociedad after snubbing the chance to join Liverpool this summer, despite the Reds agreeing to pay the 25-year-old’s €60m release clause, Ufabet told Marca on Wednesday.

Many Reds fans are disappointed with Zubimendi’s decision and some don’t quite get it. When asked what Real Madrid means to him, the 25-year-old midfielder replied: ‘La Real for me is my life. I think I spent half my life there. The things I’m a part of at Real, it’s my life. ‘
When asked what his friends said to him after Liverpool came calling and whether they tried to convince him to stay at the club,
‘No, no, my friends are clear that whatever decision I make will be the best, there is no pressure at all,’ the 25-year-old midfielder said.
Real Sociedad have had a poor start to the season after Miguel Merino left for Arsenal and the loss of Amari Traore, who is out for the rest of the season with an injury, while another key player, Brais Mendez, is also struggling with an injury, as La Real host Real Madrid after the international break.
Zubimendi said of the incident: ‘It is true that we are not 100 per cent fit yet. We have new players who have only recently joined us for training. An important player has left. As soon as we are back on track, everything will be fine.’
Real Sociedad signed Croatian midfielder Luca Sučic from Salzburg in the summer, before adding Orri Oskarsson and Nayef Aguerd towards the end of the window. Despite a poor start to the season, their aim is to secure European football next season.
‘That’s the problem. It’s a project that’s been going on for years. We’ve been in Europe for five years and there are high demands not only on the club but also on the people. So hopefully we can live up to expectations.’
‘Playing in Europe is an obvious goal. The higher the position, Promotion Ufabet the better. We have to look for the best version of ourselves and above all compete. Make sure we are known (for our style) and that we are seen as unique.’
